I recently brought samsung galaxy s3 t999 t mobile version.
I'm not living in USA. So I unlocked my phone. It's 4.1.2.
All the functions working well.

Today battery was at 50%. (In morning) After few minutes I touched my phone. It was heated. I looked the battery level. It was about 25%.
I felt something is wrong. So I reset my phone to factory default.
So now there is no apps. Wifi on. Power saving on. motions on. Sync on.
I fully charged the phone.
As usual I used the phone without apps. Only calls, sms, listen music, surf net. (Default internet browser. Not chrome)
No heat. Battery % went down steady.
At about 30% I connect the charger again. (In evening)
Within few minutes bottom of the phone was very high heat. Home button area.
I have nothing to do. I just restart the phone.
After restat battery was at 5%.
Now it's charging. But home button area is very high heat.
So I turned off the phone while charging.
I feel home button area is now in room temperature.

Problem briefly - Phone suddenly heat up mostly in low battery levels and battery drains. After connect the charger or restart. Phone works well.

Can anyone help me with this issue?
I'm very afraid... I feel this phone may suddenly burn out... :-X
Please help.

Thank you very much for reading my problem.

Welcome to Android Central.
This happened to my wifes device last year and it totally burnt out the board. I would bring it into your carrier and have them look at it . Or if you have insurance you may be able to get a replacement device.

Is this a hardware fault?
Can't I resolve this by changing software or something?
