    If it's like the stock Messaging app, only if you use a third party app for it that doesn't wake up the screen. That one little annoyance was the reason I moved to Hangouts for SMS/MMS.

    Only if you transfer your number to services like Google Voice, I think.

    You should be able to control this in the interruptions settings. It's a blanket control on messages or apps though, not just for voicemail.
