Stan very true. the iPhone wants a .5 amp charge. Android supports 1 amp. The Note 3 will charge at 1 amp. it will hold charge at .5 amp (the drain = the charge) but at 2 amps it will charge fast. most older equipment is .5 so most likely the output on the outlet is .5, hence the issue.
