In the conversion from my AT&T Samsung Mythic (ugh!) to my new Note 3 I noticed that the contacts list came across doubled - each entry was listed twice. I don't have a long list but it will grow. So I looked for a way to go in and edit/consolidate the list, and discard the dupes.

Should be easy, yes? Wrong, cell boy

I think (!) I finally got rid of the dupes, etc. but I had to visit each ... and ... every ... one, ... one ... field ... at ...a ... time. And my thumbs are sore

Then I discovered/downloaded Kies - this has got to be "THE" Answer, right? Wrong again. Kies (for a PC at least, Win7 prof.) is still a beta (the friendly chat-lady said).

So I'm looking for a PC (Win7) software that will let me list out the Contacts (to Excell would be nice) rename or move the fields into something that makes sense to me and reload them on the Note 3. Is there an answer?

    Thanks, cvt

Are your contacts stored local on the phone? If so, why not export them to a file on your sd card and then import them in Google contacts in your Gmail account. Once there, you can merge duplicates. Also, once you have them in Google they are easier to maintain and transfer to any other device in the future.

If you sync your contacts with a Gmail account you can go to Gmail on the web, go to contacts and export them there to a .csv file then edit away in excel. This is all from memory. It gives you two formats, I pick the Google format and I do not alter the format. Save in excel as a new .csv file. So you still have your original.
In contacts in Gmail delete them all... you have your original .csv as a backup. Then you MAY need to sync your phone so you don't have dupes again... A possibility.
Then upload your edited .csv into Gmail contacts.
    Hope this helps.

I not only have Dupes but also Triplets..
I asked at AT&T and the salesperson said for me to delete my Google contacts..
Didn't sound like a plan I was willing to follow and have yet corrected it.. It's going to be a challenging task with some 300+ contacts, meaning about a 1000 entries to look at and sort out..
Some are only email addresses on one listing and phone and email on the other for that same person...
I try to use my phone on Bluetooth in the car and call for it to call little johnny and I get there is a number of little Johnnys in my contacts and which would I like to call, the number is the same on all listings???

Don't get me wrong, I love the Note 3 but I have to say voice recognition on my iphone 5 and previous models was much better, JMHO..
Now could be it's me making the transition to a new phone but I don't think it has done any voice recognition task I have ask yet..
I am using whatever voice app came on the phone, I have seen mention of getting Google voice but not sure what that is about..
If I did, would I uninstall the on-board voice app or just turn it off? Would it be better than what is on the phone now?
    Thanks,
    Sonny

Re: voice recognition, I disabled S-Voice the stock app via application manager. I was having a problem of it starting up all by itself and it was making me crazy. Then I tried a variety of alternative apps and settled on Assistant. None of them are ideal, but you can probably find one you can live with.

Also, if you have AT&T you can sync with AT&T Address Book. Then go to att.com/addressbook and manage your contacts. There doesn't appear to be a specific method for eliminating all duplicates with one click, but it's relatively easy to highlight all of the ones you want to delete and then click on "delete."

Lol, mine also will start talking to me randomly.. It can hear something on the TV and start asking me if I want to do a search on the web..
    Thanks for all the tips...

I dunno. I'm going to have to think on using GMail like that. I am a total nobody but it bothers me to store/share personal data in Gmail or where ever.

FWIW My dupes were created, I think, by Syncing with the "PC Studio" program (from Samsung?) that I used with the Samsung Mythic.
