    I'm using the Galaxy S4 and whenever I have new emails the notification is always wrong. In the notification bar it'll say 18 new message when there are actually only 2 or 3. Anybody know what's going on here? It's not always 18, just some large number. It's a microsoft exchange email account.

    Have you read all messages? When you get a new notification, if you still have 18 unread messages it'll actually show that number even if you only received 2 new ones.

    Do you have more than 1 email address for your phone? Like the gmail and a yahoo or some other type? If so, all will go to your inbox, but you may only see the ones for the gmail or other inbox. Click on the 3 bars next to the inbox to check.

    I have the same problem. Three different accounts and the number notification just keeps on stacking higher and higher. I get one mail and the notifications says 3 or 4. I can't two mails and we're up to 8 or more in the notification number. I would love to know if someone has figured out why this is.

    Oh, I should probably say that sometimes just opening the mail app removes the notification number even though I haven't opened any mail. So, it could be that the number doesn't equal unread emails but it wired incorrectly to something else, like... how many times it has checked for emails or something like that.

    For me - notifications will continue to increase the count if I don't open the mail app. Once I open the mail app, they begin to synchronize with what actually comes in. I have my Exchange for work synced up on my phone and when I receive a new e-mail, it'll continue to notify me until I open the mail app on my phone, even if I have viewed the e-mail, replied to it and everything on my Outlook.

    My problem is solved now. I removed all my accounts and re-added them using the Exchange option. I did not use the Gmail template for my Google Apps email, but instead Exchange. It seems everything is working correctly now.
