4GLTE users ever force 2G(EDGE)/LTE for better battery life?

Is LTE worthwhile?

I'm an iPhone 4 user, who is fragmented with his Media (i.e. iTunes, Amazon MP3, Amazon Instant Video, PS3/PSP format media) and I just want it to all work together!

So, I'm fully going Android, (for the time being) and so I'm planning on purchasing the Sony Xperia ion (June 2012 RelDate) and I'm wondering if any of you LTE consumers have tried the Verizon LTE trick by forcing EDGE(2G) and disabling/turning off HSPA+(3.5G) and leaving LTE always-on?

Since we all know that 3G still uses more battery power on standby compaired to EDGE radios, have any of you been able to test it out?

If you are going to test it out, chime in here so I know that people are actually listening...

Thank you all.

Oh! One last thing, does AT&T disable the dialer codes that allow you to change those settings? Answer me that.
