I have an unlocked AT&T Note 4 running on Android. 4.4.4. I have it on metro pcs. It was a replacement for a t-mobile unlocked note 4 that I was having issues with. I have checked for an update and keep having it tell me that it is up to date or that checking failed to try back in 24 hours like in the pic below. The t-mobile note I had updated with no problem when t-mobile pushed the update. Am I wrong to assume the AT&T one should have done the same???? Any help would be appreciated greatly.

Problem with AT&T phones is that they usually lock the updates to their own SIM cards. So, you have two options:
1) Hook it up to Kies on a PC. Sometimes (not always) the updates will be available through Kies downloads for unlocked devices.
2) Get an AT&T SIM card and try to download again.

I tried keis and it said it was up to date. Does the att sim card need to be active??

I would think so, otherwise it won't recognize your phone in the network, which is how they 'unlock' updates. Also, I can't remember if it still does it, but I believe that if your phone is rooted, this also blocks OTA updates.

You can take it to Best Buy and go to the Samsung area and have them update it for free.
