Does anyone have any idea if Amazon will release the Prime Video app for Android? I had it on my iPad and it was rather nice to have. This is holding me off from buying an Android tablet until it is released. I almost bought a Kindle tablet but they are just too closed of an ecosystem for me. Has anyone heard any news or having a good idea of when this app will be released, if ever?

No news yet. The only option on a tablet is to use a Flash-enabled web browser (with Flash installed).

On my Nexus 7, I side-loaded Flash Player, and use xScope Browser to access Amazon Prime videos. Works well, even full screen.

I, too, would love to see their video app come to all Android devices. Until they open it up (it's a selling point for their Kindle Fires), the browser will work.
