1/15/12: Returning your Nexus?

Good lord. Please actually know what you're talking about when you post.

The nexus shows actual 4G signal. All of the other phones you mention show 1X (voice connection) in their signal display. I can assure you that if the Thunderbolt or Rezound showed the actual 4G signal, it would be identical to the Nexus'.

Ok,

Good example of bad signal. Looking back at my screenshots I posted on this forum I averaged 1 to 2 bars on the nexus. With my iPhone, Droid X, Thunderbolt, Rezound and hit and miss with my OG Droid I averaged 4 to 5 bars. These screenshots were taken at my house.

Sorry but that's unacceptable.

Please read the bold. I see you know that the Thunderbolt and Rezound are 4g phones.

You still don't get it. The Rezound and Thunderbolt may be 4g phones, but the bar indicator does not indicate strength of 4g signal for them.

This has been discussed many times at this board.

I get that part. Just like the #1 complaint, the low signal also caused dropped calls. Never had i dropped a call with verizon till i owend a Nexus.

You do realize these are digital phones? 0 or 1. You either have a signal or you don't. It sounds like you want to have a lot of bars, which ultimately are not all that significant.

But dBm's are significant. And the GNex fails on that front on 4G where I live.

And your "low signal" on the phone is based on the number of bars showing on one phone versus the number of bars showing on another phone, right?

A comparison cannot be made based on the number of bars being shown because the bars are measuring two different things on two different phones.

FWIW, I haven't had a dropped call at all on my Galaxy Nexus.

I actually wanted clear calling more then 50% of the time and no dropped calls. Look I'm making a point like many others. Some want to sound smarter then the others with their "fail" pictures because their Nexus works 100% of the time and it makes them blind to know that the nexus has problems. Big problems. Read the reviews on verizonwireless.com and you will see the big picture.

Who has said the Nexus doesn't have problems? The difference I see is that some do understand there are problems but also understand there are work around for those problems or that solutions will come along.
I hope you are correct and that the problems are software fixable and not hardware problems we are stuck with. I can wait for a fix, but if no fix is possible, that is a different issue.

I just saw what the mod has done and I respect it. So never mind my last post

The radios are crap. In my condo my 4s works perfectly. My step brothers gn simply won't work. It works perfectly at his house.

I'm going to pick up one (gn) when he receives an update that allows him to use it at my house. I'm just glad he has one and we noticed this prior to me buying one off contract.

I live and work in a very weak 4g (and 3g) area so without WIFI I drop data a lot; however, I've never dropped a call - not since the BB STORM (crap phone).
I had the BIONIC before and the signal was about the same...I wish I could try the signal quality of the Rezound but I can't let the Nexus go (Love the absence of a skin, ROMS, Kernels...etc).

The dropped calls happen mostly when the phone is switching from 4G down to 3G. If you are in a strong 4G coverage area like Chicago, I am sure it isn't a problem for you.

okay, so i'm sure many of you got this phone right on release day, so the big question: How many of you will be sticking with your nexus for the long haul, and how many of you will be returning it to the store?

Personally, i'm in it for the long haul. I absolutely love this phone and the issues that have been discussed repeatedly on this forum have not had a significant impact on my experience. I feel it will be a while before i see another phone on the market worthy of replacing this phone (imo) and when i do, it'll prolly be another nexus.

molon labe!!!

I did not return my GN during the return period. To be honest, I am now wishing that I had. How we view our own experiences with our phones is singularly dependent on how we use our phones, what services on them are critical to our needs.

At home I use the GN on wireless and up to owning the GN it has never been a problem with other phones. I've used my Dinc (now used by my wife), my Thunderbolt, my Samsung Charge and all worked all over with our wireless. My GN is giving me fits with wireless. We have a very large area that needs to be covered by wireless and it was never an issue up to now. I sometimes use my GN at the same time and in the same room as my Asus Transformer. The Transformer hums along just fine while the GN either has no signal or it shows an extremely weak signal and doesn't bring in any data wirelessly.

I loved the GN and sat on it thinking that I could live with this, but I now realize that this was a mistake. As much as I love ICS and the large screen, when it comes down to pure usability (that is usability for me, my needs and in my space), the GN simply is inadequate.

I don't drop calls and in stronger areas the data works well. I use wireless at home because we live in a very marginal area and signal is iffy. Wireless was always my workaround when at home, but now, that is no longer the case. I am considering going with the Rezound. As much as I am not a fan of Sense, and I hate the thought of going back to Gingerbread, even more I hate the thought of a phone that just isn't working for me.

Sorry to hear you're having issues with wireless. My motto has always been "when in doubt, let it go". I havent really had any doubt about my Gnex since day one.

My wifi works perfectly. Have you tried returning it for another gnex?

I thought about returning it for something else and I thought about returning it for another GN. In the end I never returned it. Didn't want to hassle unrooting and returning it to stock. I kept telling myself it would be ok. So, no one to blame but myself.

If someone lives in a stronger signal area than I do I think this would be a really great phone. Wireless would not be such a critical issue then.

Wifi works just fine when the signal is very strong, it's only when the signal becomes weak that the problem surfaces. What I am saying is that other devices will work (on wifi) with weak signal when the GN will not work. You'll not have that issue if you are never in a highly marginal wifi range.

Since I've lived with it this long and since I've created my own problem I'm going to see what is coming out in the next month or two and then I will probably move on to something else. I paid ful price for the GN and will end up paying full price for the next phone. I am not fond of the idea of being stuck in a contract in order to save that money. I would rather pay up front and be able to tell them (or any other carrier) to go pound sand if I feel like it.

My GN was replaced under warranty by Verizon. My original one would drop from 4g to 3g then sometimes drop data altogether, even in wifi mode. It also rebooted itself a couple times a week.

The new one has been MUCH better in the two weeks i've had it. Wifi has been rock solid and I've only seen it reboot once. 4g is way more consistent and the bars don't just go gray when they feel like it.

If you're having problems with data dropping out, get the replacement! The speaker seems louder too on my new one, no need to install volume+.
