I was going to get the 5x 32gb on the daily steals site for $269, but the one plus 3 is looking tempting. What are your thoughts?

They both have 1080 p screens.
64 vs 32 gigs storage
6gb RAM vs 2 this spec is important to me because I hate when I run out of ram
Camera hard to compare right now
Nexus will obviously get updates, who knows about the one plus
Much better processor
T-Mobile wifi calling is on nexus not one plus 3. I don't have it on my og Nexus 5, so I can live without it, though I don't want to.
Cost $270 vs $400

So I get better RAM, more storage, better battery, and much better processor, but I lose great updates, and the great nexus customer service.

So what do you think?

There is also the size/screen size/form factor to consider.

Personally I think they're pretty close to each other, at least not enough to make a difference for me. That deal for a nexus 6 at $180 is tempting too. But, the wife said we need to save up for it and not use our savings. I hate when she acts like an adult sometimes...

Definitely the OP3! I've heard too many horror stories about the 5X to suggest it to anyone anymore. Also the OP3 is far more future proof, it is much less likely to be slow a year from now than the 5X.

I've got a Nexus 5X 32GB and am thinking about getting OnePlus 3, though because I've got Nexus Protect, I know I'm going to lose at least $100 in the swap.

What I don't like about the 5X: First and foremost, the 5X is laggy. It feels worse than my Nexus 5 did in some cases - this is probably thermal issues which plague the Snapdragon 808. It's almost intolerable. The 5X has a very good camera, but only when using HDR. In all other cases, it's average, and with the processor, HDR takes a while to work through. The screen is good, but not great. I got a 5X not because I wanted a good, cheap phone, but because I wanted stock Android and didn't want a device I couldn't hold with one hand (6p). If Google had introduced a '5p' I'd have gotten it instead. The plastic is... ok but the device looks utterly unremarkable, and feels more like hollow plastic than the 5 did.

What I do like about the 5X:
Google's support, wide user base, and first to get updates, decent camera quality, ok size (wish it was a bit thinner, and I still think 5" is better than 5.2)

What I'm realizing now: Google knows it lost the Android upgrade game. None of Google's OEM partners can deliver OS updates in a quick and timely manner, and even if they do, they only do it for a fraction of the time people get a device. There isn't much that I'm excited about in Android N - split screen multitasking, but honestly, the 5X is slow at switching between apps, so what are the chances that it'll be fast at running two apps at once?

The appeal of the OnePlus 3: It's almost exactly halfway between the size of a 5x and 6p. Although the 5x is a bit big for my tastes, and the 1+3 is larger still, the 1+3 gives you a 5.5" screen, and is probably almost the same in the hand as the 5x. The Snapdragon 820, by almost all accounts, makes amends for the sins of the 808/810, and OnePlus is at least making the right noises with understanding customers (and their desire for OS updates).

Camera is good, maybe a half-step behind the 5x in some situations. I don't take that many photos on my smartphone. If I want a great photo, I bring along my mirrorless camera with it's APS-C sensor that's got like 8x the light capturing area of the 5x.

My concerns with the OnePlus 3: Support seems iffy; every year OnePlus changes their story about what they're doing with their OS and updates; the phone might be too big or the weight might be too much.

I'm not sure if I want to buy and test out or return - but I'm sorely tempted.

Nexus 5x honestly is the worst over all nexus phone made I do have one and find it has problems with lag. I have tried everything and in the end one has to clear cache once a week or more , the only good thing is camera . I also have a oneplus 2 and it does circles around 5x so I would definitely option for OP3 ( i got me one on order ) The 5x ill keep as backup and gone try different Roms .
PS uploading stock MM on to 5x from google did help in some lag.

I'm on the verge of getting an N5X via Project Fi, so I've been watching N5X discussion closely. Near as I've been able to tell: 99-44/100% of users that had reported problems with lag found the March update cleared it all up.

For me one big consideration is price: $250 for a 32GB N5X via Project Fi vs. $400 for a 1+3. Not going to spend $400 on a phone with a two-year lifespan. Not. Ever.

Each to there own but even after the last updated the 5x is running same issues just maybe little better but do agree one can get one cheap now and over all its a good phone.
I find works awesome with Nova pro launcher but SwiftKey keyboard makes it lag so I I use Textra and stock google keyboard.
I'm on my op2 as daily driver mainly cos it's just that much smoother and it can run multiple application plus battery life is awesome.

Also would like to add, the finger print scanner on the back is not a good location it's more of a pain to use on 5x

I'd avoid the Snapdragon 808 at all cost at this point. The 820 is superior, regarding performance and managing battery.

It helps that the OnePlus 3 sounds like an absolutely fantastic deal.

$400 on a two year life plan is a steal for me lol. I've been paying $800 for years. I seriously question people who moan about prices for a phone. It is probably the most important and used device you have. When I consider price, its always about how much use will I get out of it. When I paid $1200 for a gaming laptop that I used maybe a few times a year, I knew I was a sucker. When I paid $800 for a phone I used for two years daily and went EVERYWHERE with me, it was a no brainer. Now I am cutting that in half? GG.
