What android applications really require that much processor power to run? Are advances in the phone microprocessors paving the way for more realistic games or is that primarily based on the graphics chip inside the phone? I just have a feeling that all of this hype over screen resolution and processor speed is just a marketing ploy.

They would enable the phones to do certain animations enabled in high quality games. Like how dual core enables 1080p recording.
