Is sprint going to be consistent with their 4g tax by adding it to epic 4g owners like they have with evo owners? I haven't seen anything yet, but I thought I would ask if someone else had heard something to that effect.

It is not a tax. But yes, there will be the premium data charge of $10 for the Epic.

If they wouldn't charge that for the Epic, I think there will be, hm, oh about 300000 people lighting up Sprints customer service lines.

I remember reading a flyer that included the EPIC 4G and the EVO, and showing off how with the $10 premium you get more than ATT/Verizon and still pay less when compared to the DROID and the iphone

It's for actual Unlimited data, still cheaper than comparable plans @ att with a 2gb cap. The plan is the price I'm concerned with when I sign a 2yr contract, the phone price does not matter.

There is no reason for Sprint to charge $10 more, other than the fact they can. There plan is still lower than a Verizon or AT&T plan with the $10 fee facked on. If customers leave over the charge, they can look forward to a more expensive plan on a network.

I don't like paying the fee, but it isn't a deal breaker. I like the carrier, and right now they can use all of the financial success they can get.

That has nothing to do with the point that it is ****ty. Sprint is supposed to trying to gain customers, not be like the competition(which is whooping the **** out of them)

Word is they are dropping discounts on additional lines too starting 8/1

Well, I can say I'm happy with Sprint and their prices. I'm also going to be in an area that should receive 4G soon. I dunno, I think people are making a big deal about the $10 tax. I think its crappy, yes. Especially when Dan Hesse said it would be cheaper per MB than 3G is. The reality is, they need to build a network, and since they haven't been gaining enough customers, to get a 4G phone, you're going to have to fork out the money first so you can hope to have a 4G network. I know its for unlimited data, and in reality, we all have unlimited data. If you want the phone, pay the tax, if not, there are crappy Palm Pre's and Samsung Intercepts for you to buy that don't cost the extra dough, just don't expect the world when they produce you piss-poor service... remember, you paid for that.
I was against the 4G, but now I'm numb to the idea and willing to pay it. There is also a chance the fee will be dropped in the future, just like the 3G fee was dropped in the past. Yes, you're plan will go up $240 over 2 years, still less than ATT and gives you better service and no panic attacks about how much data you've used.

Well said!!

sure are...as well as the discount as applied to additional services

I'm on a old F&C retention plan and I get 20% off against my 10$ additional line , 20$ unlimited text fee and 10$ data charge right now....that all ends 8/1

however this change allows folks affected by this to get their ETF waived...but this *does not* reset your upgrade/150$ discount period....

all in all, good timing, because my contract is up 10/1 ... being a 8 yr customer, I figure I can get tele-sales to let me renew to a unlimited plan, grab the Epic a couple of months early as they prob would love to see me get off this retention plan...

Right, cause VZW and ATT don't do that. T-Mobile also doesn't allow 1 yr contracts anymore.

All of t-mobile's plans now come with the no contract option. You get the same, but pay less. The catch is no phone subsidies! I'm actually trying to convince my gf to switch from ATT to t-mobile b/c of this since she doesn't want to leave her iphone.

****, if this is true I might just cancel Sprint and switch to TMobile. $330 Galaxy S off contract.

They cannot afford to go bankrupt in the process either. Compare Sprint price to verizon and ATT. The difference is huge.

Tmobile no contract price is actually the same as the Sprint price with a contract and phone subsidies. Tmobile also offers less services and their network isn't that strong. For the service they offer I expected their prices to be lower.
