10e - Screen while on current active call

Hi Guys -

Recently picked up a 10e and have a question. While on a call (not using any headphones, the screen turns off. Great.

However, whenever I move the phone away, I expect the screen to turn back on, so I can do whatever it is that I need to do (put phone on mute, enter a code on numeric keypad, text, etc) but it doesn't. I would have to turn the phone back on using the fingerprint sensor (or tap to wake, if on). Is this normal? Was hoping the phone would automatically turn on as you move it away while on a call?

Even when the phone session is complete, and I remove the phone down, the screen doesn't turn on, for me to hang up. I would have to just wait for other party to hang up, or use the fingerprint, to turn screen on, and then use the phone.

Any thoughts?
