I am assuming that is on top of the 30 dollar unlimited plan? This is for for tethering, that is.

So 30 bucks unlimited data on your phone then 80 bucks if you want to use up to 10gig of data for tethering. The prices are outrageous but if it's the only way I can play black ops online then I might have to go with it :(

No, that would be instead of the $30/2gig plan under the upcoming tiered plan. There's also a 5 gigs for $50 option as well as other plans that include tethering & WiFi hotspot. But if you currently have unlimited data for $30 on Verizon, you'll be grandfather'd for the foreseeable future, even when you upgrade.

Thanks, Robrecht

No, they are not seperate charges. You get a total of 10GB for $80. Use it via any method you choose - Phone or Hotspot or USB Internet connection.

Look at it this way, if you buy the tethering plan it's like getting the Mobile Hotspot for free :) Just a big bucket of data. But not unlimited on the phone nor the hotspot.

Word is you won't be able to do that anymore after tiered plans are introduced on July 7th.

Thanks, Robrecht

they do have tethering plans for an extra $20/month but can I add that or use that and keep my current plan?

I know I can root and risk getting caught/in trouble but not with the amount I use but if I can keep it legal I will. If they wont let me add it or want me to ditch my unlimited plan just to tether/use wifi hotspot then I will go darkside.

There's a few minor variations in what has been leaked by Verizon employees, but here's one thread:

Why are there so many threads on the new data plans on this forum? We're grandfathered in. We get to keep unlimited 4g.

Because those of us who need to sign up for the Mobile Hotspot will lose unlimited. That's why.

Yeah, that sucks. I only use tethering occasionally on a prorated basis but no more. I also wouldn't mind buying a USB thumb thingy and paying per GB but they say that can only be done on 3G currently.

Wonder what Verizon will do with Moto's webtob applications? Probably require a tethering plan maybe?

Thanks, Robrecht

Man I am going to need to start drinking to make verizons plans look better because these are just awful. I use the wifi once or twice a month but it looks like no more of that. Its to bad, we were waiting for the tethered plans to get my wife and daughter a smarter phone because they dont use a lot of data and she didnt want to pay an extra $30/month for each but it looks like verizon wont be getting any extra money from us now and they will stick with regular phones and my daughter can continue using her ipod touch

The trick here is that VZW is not in the business to sell phones, but instead to sell data/voice contracts. They don't really care if you buy a new phone or keep the old phone. They just care if you buy new data/voice contract.

although it says grandfathered in, it does not say for life.

so not only will we not buy new phones but we will not add any new data plans to our account.

Really? I didn't know that. Not that I am signing up for Mobile Hotspot... But still..
