unplugged at 11am yesterday and went out for lunch and never came back. several calls, lots of texts, lots of surfing, a little Nav GPS, a tiny hair of 4G, and no WIFI. lots of demos as everyone wanted to see the phone - strippers included. got home around 10pm and had 15% juice left. 11am-10pm and 15% left. very impressed. how do i do it? simple.

1. 4G, WIFI, GPS, BT, Hotspot all set at OFF with widgets. turn ON only as needed.
2. UNCHECK "always on mobile data".
3. Brightness set to very low (underneath checkmark - extreme left). this is plenty bright for me.
4. No Live Wallpaper. not sure of this makes a difference but i have my own graphic anyway.
5. No Data intensive constant data hungry widgets/apps constantly running. i wiped News and Stocks and Sprint Zone. i will get my data from the browser fresh as needed. i have no updating widgets other than 2 weather cities with the nice big beautiful HTC Clock/Weather default widget i keep with auto refresh at 1 hour. i have 2 GMail PUSH accounts that i set up and are always on.
6. Sign out of everything when done - GTalk, Qik, FB, etc. Everything! i don' use this stuff anyway. as noted before - let GTalk run in the background for PUSH but always sign out and uncheck auto sign you in.
7. Vibrate is ON for Calls and Texts. Vibrate is OFF for Mail. ALL Haptic Feedback - Keyboard, Screen etc. is OFF.

am i missing anything? i don't feel like i am depriving myself of anything with these settings! i don't feel like i'm babying the phone at all. and the great battery life is awesome.

so anyone who is biitching about battery life try this and let me know how it works.

p.s. i do not use any kind of task killer or kill any running applications in any way via the control panel or any other way.

Thanks, most of my stuff is turned off. Never thought of GTalk and just turned mine off since I've been signed in 24/7. Will see if this helps....... Interesting. I just turned off my GTalk "automatically sign in" and reset the phone. It still signs me in.

Will do. Only thing I had running that I never thought of was GTalk. I just turned it off. I used my phone very lightly this morning and lost almost 20%. I will recharge to 100% and give you results. I am not expecting any major changes...

it probably wouldn't hurt to do a power off, wait 30 seconds, and power on after you follow my steps.

Did everything you said. Battery was charged 100%. I visited 1 webpage, no wifi, 4g etc and battery dropped 6%. Wasn't even on the webpage more than 2 minutes.

Update: Lost over 11% battery life in 20 minutes since being charged to 100%. Only one webpage was visited still. Phone has been idle, screen off since.

we suspect that the battery indicator is not 100% accurate - especially for the first 5-15% consumption. i have found that my battery % drops quickly too for that first 5-15% but then it really levels off after that.

one thing i did was ditch all battery widgets. i don't obsess and stress over every % because these percentages are not accurate and they are not linear. i use the stock default battery bar and guess what - i'm never stressed about battery anymore. the battery widgets with the % make things look worse than they are. again - it is not a straight linear power consumption! AND accuracy is suspect for that first 5-15%.

follow my steps, ditch the battery widgets, and relax and enjoy and use the phone and report back to us at the end of the day.

stop obsessing over every misreported %. ditch the widget now.

I would be more confident if I didn't go down this road before. I'll see what happens. At work now so I'll play around with it and see how long it last. Thanks again for the insight. I suspect a bad battery, but we'll see.

how's 3G coverage in your city?

one wildcard is if you live in a poor coverage area and your phone is constantly fighting for a signal it will eat your battery alive BUT these areas should be few and far between.

That's exactly how I feel...I stay out all day at work, hard use n I get home at 7pm n still have bout 15 to 20% left so I'm trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong that my batt is not dying fast enough lol. I even bought an ext batt bcause of all the **** I heard about the batt but I have no screen issues, batt, etc...

I get a pretty good signal. I thought about that too.

Ok. A quick update. It'a been almost 3hrs since I unplugged my phone. I've done some light internet use and I am down to 68%. No way in hell I'll get the time most people are claiming they get. Again I am pointing more on a bad battery than anything else. I've tried what everyone has suggested and with minimal impact.

Well here is my advice. .. Using the same battery i use to get to 15% in 4 hours. Install ATK.... if ATK doesn't help you.. return the phone. I now use the very same battery I thought sucked and i can pretty much go 15 hours if i want.

Sprint installed ATK. Been using it since yesterday. Seen a small improvement. Appreciate your advise.

1. what apps do you have installed?
2. stop watching the battery % and just use the phone and tell us when it gets to zero.

Same here if I baby the phone and don't hardly use it I might get 12 hrs but usually I have to recharge during the day, I also have heat issues my phone gets super hot at random times, batt temp ran up to105.3 yesterday so I'm going to return it plus I have restart issue

1. are you following all my steps?
2. list your apps.

Gekko's tips are solid, i would add one thing tho...

ABSOLUTELY turn on wi-fi when you're home. Wi-fi is less strain on the battery than using 3G.

My Apps I installed:
Liquor Run Mobile
Scanner Radio
Shapewriter
Shootme
Spare Parts
Simple Tip
Taxi Magic
AIM
Yahoo
Yelp

ATK is set at aggressive - Sprint and BB recommended this setting.
