Android Central Question

Hello, I have a pixel 5a. Right after updating to 12 I noticed a feature included that will definitely have me dropping all google phones unless I can be remediate it. This is the problem: previously opening an app, any app and then closing an app, any app, the app would just close and it's associated icon would just quietly go back to it's position on the screen without this newly-introduced zooming/shrinking back into place (like all iPhone icons do). It gives me eye fatigue and is annoying that every app I now open, when I close it it does this fancy sweeping back down into position. I think this is called animation and it is horrid. Disabling all animation in the developer options does not turn this off.

Is there some secret way to turn this off as I cannot find any setting in the settings to do so.

Thanks.

B. Diddy, "Settings>Accessibility>Text & Display>..." does not work.
This was stated in the original question: "Disabling all animation in the developer options does not turn this off."
I am with OP, everytime there is an update for "security reasons", it introduces more and more clutter to the interface. I am waiting for my pixel to die so that I can get another phone. I definitely won't be coming back to Google.

Welcome to AC!
Which settings you adjusted in Developer settings and at what you set it at?

I understand EXACTLY! I have the Pixel 4a and I love the simplicity and function of this device. I DO NOT like how they sneak in subtle variations along with the alleged "Security Updates". Sure, I allowed the newest Security Update but I didn't expect my app icons to develop "wings" and swoop down across the screen back into position after an app is closed. This is dizzying. I HATE IT! It apparently does not fall into the category of "annimation" because I DO have "annimation" turned OFF in my Text and Display settings but that setting does not affect this.

IF this were easily fixed by a toggle switch, I think we would have sorted it by now. This may just be something we have to live with . . . like so many other things.

Sorry I missed that -- but that's strange, because I tested it on my Pixel 6 Pro (which should be pretty much the same as the 5a), and that animation went away.

You might want to try a 3rd party launcher like Nova, which gives more control over this kind of animation.

Interesting, I just tested it on my Pixel 3a XL, and even with those animation settings turned off (both in the Accessibility menu and the Developer Options), it still shows the animation. But not on the Pixel 6.

I would still say that a 3rd party launcher is worth trying, but in the meantime, I would also send feedback to Google about this in the phone's Help & Feedback option in the system settings.

Another thought -- I wonder if this might have been a bug introduced in the March update, which the Pixel 6 line hasn't received yet.

Got the update today on my Pixel 6 Pro and this animation arrived and ignores my animation settings which are all set to off. This is like an explosion or a punch in the eye, I would imagine it could give some people seizures. I sent feedback. An animation that overrides a user's accessibility settings is really bad form.

How has this still not been fixed?! It's July 2022 and I still have the problem that apps pop back out in this horrible way when you close them ... It was working fine before the update to android 12 ... Why do they always have to add these useless graphical "features".

Go into Developer Options and turn off Animator Duration Scale.
