I have had the Evo for a little while and want to unlock the full capabilities of it.

Any suggestions on which is the best OS for the Evo?
Also I have read that I may need to upgrade a kernel?

I appreciate the assistance.

Well... you'll pretty much end up sticking with the Android OS. As far as kernels... you hAve your choice. You will most likely change your Rom and kernel or play around till you fine the combo that suits you.

Myns is a fantastic ROM. Vaelpak is also really good. Just remember to always do a nandroid before making any significant changes to you phone. Titanium backup or my backup pro are also good back up apps. Download app brain before you do anything. Sync you apps and it will make it easier to download everything. Good luck... make sure you verify your hboot and have all the proper files. Whatever route you go, read everything first, then follow along. Ask questions if you're unsure of any steps. Enjoy your new evo

Rootin with Unrevoked was real easy for me n I didn't even lose anything after rooting...then I personally think cyanogenmod is the s h I t!!!

Run the gambit and try them all out. CM7 is a great (IMO the best) Sense free Gingerbread ROM. You can also try Myns Z and play with Sense 2.0, which brings some cool new features to the table. Also, give MIUI a try. It's an AOSP ROM that has a very iPhone like feel but it's still Android! With CM7 there is a new Kernel out that you can flash that will also give you HDMI mirroring.

Best place to start your hunt is XDA...

The best OS is Android for the phone. I'm sure you can try something else, but you'll need to be a very proficient programmer because I doubt anyone else has.
