2.3.7 shows 3G when on 1x service

So , every since updating from 2.3.4 to 2.3.7, my phone now shows 3g in the notification bar all the time, even when only in a 1x service area. Does anyone know how to restore the correct functionality?

They actually started that with the 2.3.5 update and you can't change it, sprint did this on the Evo 4g as well. Unless you want to run an AOSP rom like CM you just have to live with.

I'm on 2.3.5 and I get 1x all the time.
