2 Contacts for yourself?

I was wondering why the Hero has a "My contact card" when anyone with a gmail account already has an entry for themselves... or am I the only one? Does everyone else have two of themselves too?

Yes, there are two for you, one from HTC and one from Google. You can delete the Google one.
