I've had my original Motorola triumph before it came out. I've had to exchange that 3 different times. First one, the GPS wouldn't lock at all, second phone, the ear piece would buzz and you couldn't hear, the third one(Current one), the GPS will lock, but it takes 8-10 minutes. I called virgin mobile and they finally sent me a brand new phone. Now, my original triumph had Software version 38 on it, but this new one has 39 on it. I've been testing them out side by side. The 38, the screen is much MUCH more blue than the 39 one. The GPS on 39 locks instantly, however the 38 does not. The one thing about the new one though is that side by side, version 38 for some reason, get's -90 dbm, where as version 39 gets -107? That's horrible compared to what I'm used to. It's jumping all over the place. Is it the software doing this, or is it an actual hardware/antenna problem. I'm going to nandroid backup version 39, and restore it to my other phone, see if it fixes issues. Then we'll know if it's an actual problem with the phone itself or not. I'll report back on what I find.
Edit: Oh, one more thing. V39 doesn't install drivers, nor does it have a "Mobile" partition like 38 does when you plug it into a computer.
I have now gone through three different Triumph's, (I might be a masochist) and each of them had their own unique flaws. Apart from that, I like this phone enough to keep trying.
My first and second phone had the power button and volume button almost completely flush with the side of the case. My third one actually pops the button outwards a bit and has a good button feel to them. The first two phones buttons did not really feel like buttons either; they were more like pressing solid plastic.
My second phone had an insane color temperature problem. The screen was very blue compared to my first and third Triumph's I had. The second phone made yellow look green and white just a tinge off regular blue. Additionally, the second phone with the color temperature problem had the flickering screen problem. My first and third Triumph's did not have flickering screen or major color temperature problem. I think this is down to having multiple suppliers for the screen on the Triumph.
Responsiveness as a whole is the same throughout all three Triumph's with random touches not registering.
GPS ability of the first and second Triumph's I had were absolutely terrible and were pretty much useless as a navigator. My third Triumph can actually get a decent signal outdoors with a reasonable time to find my location. It still isn't quite as good as my old Optimus V, but I now find it acceptable.
My first and third Triumph's had a camera that would click as it would auto-focus, and click again once I exited the camera program. My second Triumph had no clicking noises coming out of it. However, the second and third Triumph have a yellow blob in the middle of the pictures they take.
Signal levels for all three Triumph's I had are all about the same, and all of them exhibit the same problem where if GPS gets activated the cellular signal levels get affected quite badly. All three were not nearly as good as my old Optimus V.
I just find the phones were not made with much care or testing as they were produced. My current example is the best one yet, but still has a clicking camera (Still auto-focuses, so no problem really) and a screen that is unevenly lit. This is in addition to the normal problems all other Triumph's have with signal and software bugs. I like this third one enough to keep as long as nothing else breaks.
All three phones I had ran the 1010_2_038 software version with Kernel Apps_2.6.32.9-perf and baseband PR5.
