$20/month for 1GB up to $80/month for 10GB data plans for Xoom?

It sucks. As someone who would love to have a 3g\4g Xoom, I won't be paying big red $20 a month for what equates to like 4 or 5 hours of use at best. I already have an Evo and have 4G around me. I'll just pay Sprint $30 and tether to my Evo as needed. I really hope Verizon gets their data pricing down or they'll soon find out how much more popular the WiFi only version really was.

...or you could get the wifi version and a smartphone with a $30/mo unlimited plan. With Tmobile for example its $25/mo for data part of the no contract individual plan. Allegedly if you use 5GB+ while tethering they'll charge you $15/mo, which is still a better deal than paying $20 for 1GB (its unlimited data, depending on how much data you use and how overburdoned he network in your area is they'll throttle you down to EDGE, which is better than getting charged for going over your cap with verizon).

I will probably get the 3gb plan for $35 a month and go up to the $50 plan if i need too. Does the Xoom even support mobile hotspot though?

Im sure it does for the 3G version, but it doesn't need it if you tether from your smartphone.
