2016 VW Golf and Samsung S5 - inconsistent connection behaviour

I have a new 2106 Golf and an S5 with AA installed. When I plug in the phone I get all sorts of different behaviours.
It may:
  1. Flash up: Reading USB device then do nothing (device is availble in device list)
  2. Flash up: Reading USB device then try to launch AA (repeating the process until connected, sometimes for 10 minutes straight)
  3. When I select to connect to it from device list (with AA as preferred connection), it failed then connects to mirrorlink
  4. It connects to mirrorlink without problems but doesn't see any available apps.
I have tried multiple USB cables, I just can't get any consistency with my AA experience. Has anyone had similar issues? If not, I might have to get the dealer to test out the head unit.

Thanks

Came across a post on reddit mentioning that the app can be very picky about the state of the car. By doing the following, I can get AA to load consistently.

1. Car on.
2. Seatbelt on.
3. Parking Brake on.
4. Foot on brake.

Hope this helps someone else.

Yes, I have 2016 Golf with LG G3 and same deal--very inconsistent. I'll try your "formula" over the next few days and see how it goes. Thanks for posting.

Unfortunately didn't work for me in a 2016 GTI with VZW LG G4. I really was hoping that would have fixed it lol. I'm not even able to get the setup screen on my phone. It just shows half a second and goes back to my home launcher.

Yeah, didn't work for me either. Boo hoo. I'm hoping a Marshmallow update in the future will improve this. My consolation is that when it doesn't work, I still get to use Waze and can listen to my podcasts via bluetooth no problem.

I have gotten it to work, but after a few times it goes into the mode dgiaffe describes where the screen flashes and then goes back to the launcher. It looks like it just can't get over some digital hump.

Well I updated two threads already, but just so you know I was able to make my LG G4 work in a Hyundai Sonata 2016, same cable, same phone. Therefore, it looks like it is a VW issue. There is a firmware available and it details fixes of app-connect inconsistency. Might be worth giving it a try at your car dealer --> http://www.goapr.com/support/tsb/91n9mibbulletinver2.pdf I have already the software 0613 so I'm already up to date, but maybe can help you guys with the S5.
