Ok to use my ipad charger? Stock appears to be 850mA.

Yes. The number only reflects capacity or how much power the charger can supply. The battery will only pull what it needs.

Hmm, I don't know about the above answer. There's more to charging specs than milliamps. Doesn't voltage come into play? How about approaches towards slow vs. rapid chargers?

With your numbers of 2100 and 850mA, looks like not enough to fully charge or too much and risking rapid charging issues, e.g., heat, deterioration.

Any experts here to clarify?

Micro usb chargers will be 5 volts! And what Camphill says is true, you just don't want a charger that puts out LESS amperage than stock. The battery will pull what it needs. Just cause its a 2.1 amp charger doesn't mean it puts that out all the time. Thats what it can "potentially" output. In your car if you have a 800amp battery, do u think it flows 800amps all the time, or when electrical devices(load) need it? I hope that somewhat makes sense.

Can I point out, one simple observation.

Why would you want to take a chance? Personally, I'd use components designed for the DX not for the iPhone.

ANY charger with the correct connector (micro usb) that is of sufficient capacity (the original wall charger is 850mah) will work. The phone will only pull what power it needs. A charger does not push power, the battery/phone pulls as much as it needs...period.
