2gb file limit when recording video on Nexus 4?

By default the video is set to record at 720 and the first time I used, it took a nice video about 40 minutes long and 1.80 gb. When I noticed the 720 setting, next time I set it to 1080 and set the video to run and thought it would run as long as i want as long as I had enough available memory but when I checked the phone it had stopped recording at a little over 24 minutes and the file size was 2gb... 1.99 exact.

So now I am wondering is the file limit on recording 2gb? Is the memory in some sort of FAT partition and file size limited that way? Anyone also experienced the same thing?

Yes, it's an Android OS restriction on the video files m afraid. No matter what resolution you're recording the video at, whenever you hit the near 2gb mark, your video will automatically stop recording. Some say it's due to programmers using unsigned int which has a range of -2 to 2gb while others say it's some sort of legislative issue. In any case, if you want you can work around it by using a third party app such as SVC app (Pro Version), which won't overcome the 2gb issue but it will automatically create a second file to continue recording. Hope it helps

Its the limit for 32bit systems so you won't get a bigger file.

Of course but I would like to find how succeed to record several files 2GB without stopping the video recorder as it works with the gopro camera
