I don't know if anyone else has had this problem, but 2 NTs died in each in a one week period from the time I got it. The first one I got the Tuesday before Christmas and reurned it 12/23 they replaced it now this one was marginally better, it died sometime during the night while it was being charged. I am hoping B & N is open to day because this one is going back.

I knew it was dead even though the green light was on on the charger because it was ice cold when I picked it up and sure enough it is also a goner. I am taking it back and I am done with this. I haven't done anything to this unit. I am not as techy as a lot of you so I have not "rooted" or even used my sc card. I was just enjoying reading on it a playing a couple of games. They really have to make a better product.

Not only was the first unit a bit hinky, but the charge cord never turned green. So after a few days, I took it back and they replaced the cord. If this is what B & N is putting out on the market, they are going to have a huge backlash.

Also, my nook had never been updated to the new update even though it was pretty much connected to the internet all the time here at the house.

Has anyone else had this happen? I am really upset because I really love it (if it works) and because this wasn't a small investment for an ereader. Grrr...

And to add insult to injury I just got a beautiful bright red leather roocase that is going to have to be returned to Amazon. Well, I am off to waste time until B & N opens to I can return this one again...

Do you have issues with other electronic gadgets? I work in IT and I have a couple users that are blowing up stuff all the time. One of them cannot even ware a digital watch because they fail on them. Both of these users were bought a Palm Pilot when they came out and both of them went through a bunch of them. I suppose they build up a lot of static charge in their bodies and cooks the IC's in these devices.

Here's an update:
1st, no I don't have issues with electronic stuff. I have had several different smart phone and never had a problem with any of them. I have an iphone 4 now and it works perfectly.

Here is the Update:
I went down to the local B & N where I bought the original NT and spoke with the manager. Since I paid cash for it (note to self: don't ever pay cash again) B & N offered an in store credit. Not an acceptable resolution. They didn't have enough cash in the drawer to pay me out. He told me it would be a couple of hours before they generally had enough cash to do the pay-out. So I wandered over to Best Buy to see what they had. Looked at the Kindle Fire (nice), but they were sold out, so I couldn't have bought one even if I wanted one.

Left the store trying to figure out what I could do for a couple of hours. Wasted a little while longer and then called B & N to see if they had enough cash. (I felt a bit like a bank robber calculating my haul.) Anyhow, just for the heck of it I thought I would look at it and try to do a re-set. Call me crazy...but as soon as I did that it started downloading the 1.4.1 update. Hmm...

So, I flew into the B & N lot and walked in there with the nookT in hand. I little like a cop holding a badge in the air. I said: Where's Andy (he is the manager). The NT is on and downloading an update. It is no longer on life support...get the forensic team here quick. :) He was good natured and checked it out on his computer to make sure it completely downloaded. It did. (Well, I don't know if that is such good news, but it is working just fine.

He thought it might have been trying to download the update. I said: "Yeah but didn't you tell me it only downloaded over a computer with the nookT plugged in?" He said: "Yes, but....maybe because of the wifi here???? Well, he really didn't have an answer, but I do have my NT back and running albeit on the dreaded 1.4.1 version. I also asked him if he thought that was what happened to the first one? He really didn't know, but it was the exact same senerio.

Well that's the story. Odd as it may be.

That's what happens when the do a forced OTA on your Nook Tablet. It basicly goes blank on you. It need to be completely turned off after the uninterupted download and then turned on. It will reboot itself and everything should be fine from that point on. Too bad you didn't take the opportunity to sideload the outside apps you wanted when you were on 1.4.0. They would still work for you with the update but you couldn't sideload new ones after the update with out reverting and rooting a pretty involved process. Good luck with your NT. It's still a fine device as is.
