1-is there a way to know that 4g is available without leaving it on?
2-when I end a call using Bluetooth by pressing the button on the headset the screen seems to turn on, and does not time out. Is there anything I can do
3-I went to a forum to a different site from my phone and the keyboard did not pop up. Is there a way to bring it up manually?

1.) No - just like WiFi or cellular, the radio has to be on for the device to know if a signal is available or not. There might be some fancy program out there that uses your GPS coordinates and a coverage map look to tell you, but I'm not aware of one.

2.) Not sure.

3.) The only way to make the keyboard pop-up is to click inside a text entry box.

1. NO, unfortunately.
2. Dunno.
3. When you tap a text entry field the keyboard should pop-up.

1. There is a map program (Sensorly) that can tell you that someone else has recorded 4G coverage in the area, but you have to turn on 4G to see if you actually can pick up a signal

2. Can't help, sorry

3. If tapping in a text field doesn't work, then holding down the Menu key will cause the keyboard to popup regardless of where you are

I really remember getting a 4g notification, that I was in an area with 4g.

But the fact that no one else has gotten it makes me doubt myself.

There is an option to receive notifications if 4G is available. This option requires 4G radio to be on. Menu->Settings->Wireless Networks go to 4G settings

I agree with npark. I network setting , there is a setting that notifies you when 4g is available without your 4g receiver being on. As far as the manual keyboard pop-up , no. Maybe someone will make an app for that .

Holding the menu key down should work, that's an Android thing. If that's not working then something bad happened. I would assume you already rebooted??

The option requires the 4G radio to be on. So in essence, you're not agreeing with npark.
