3G and an HTC One M8 on Verizon

Hi, here is a fun one. I have an HTC One M8 with Lollipop on Verizon. I am also using a network extender at home. I keep hearing people calling me that I am breaking up. The phone says 4G with one bar but when it switches to 3G I get like 4-5 bars. If I recall a network extender doesn't use 4G so that is probably the issue. I have tried other settings besides Global but none even give me service.

Any idea how to force it on 3G when I am at home? Verizon is telling me the network extender is bad and needs replaced and since it is out of warranty. I have no issues with calls when I am away from home.

Thanks

Pretty sure you can't force 3g only on this phone. Also, the m8 does not use 4g for phone calls, it only uses 4g for data. Calls are still routed through 3g, so really, you should not have issues because your phone is switching between networks.

Take Verizon's advice and swap out the extender. Sounds like they may be on to something.

I called them again. It's not the extender, they are going to do another site survey. It seems the coverage has gotten worse here. Thanks

I am having the same problem and unfortunately haven't been able to get it resolved. I was able to get Verizon to switch out the network extender so I got a new one that did need an update that Verizon had to send to the extender. I just had to reorder my 3rd HTC One from Verizon which will get here in a few days. I am not expecting it to work but if it doesn't then I am going to have to sell that one to Gazelle and research to see which one is compatible. The issue with the HTC one is that you cannot turn the LTE off all of the way even if you switch between the settings. I tried every setting there is more times than I can count. We were having an issue with the Iphone 6 with the network extender as well but when you switch it in the phone settings to turn LTE off then it worked perfect. I wish the same would happen with the HTC. I really wanted to stick with Android over the iphone. The support person I talked to today couldn't figure it out so they are sending yet another phone. I tried an app that was supposed to turn off the 4G LTE but it just messed my phone up for the signal elsewhere. Good luck.

I am lucky, I have a phone and a work phone on AT&T. The network extender was working fine for over a year for me. I am not convinced the extender is at fault and neither is the Verizon rep I spoke with. The phone is definitely good since I have no issues away from home. We will see what the site assessment says as far as the service. I know it is bad but maybe it got worse. If they let me out of my contract I may leave. I also have a tablet on a second line with 8 months to go. We will see what Verizon does.

Good luck with your issues.
