3G goes by-by on my Tbolt

My tbolt is having a problem that I have not seen posted here, and I am wondering if anyone has this same issue or a clue to the solution.

My home is just outside the edge of a 4G area. Literally a few blocks from here I get 4G. I have been using 3G for several years on my Eris and daughters OG Droid with out any problems.

The issue is that if I leave wi-fi off the mobile web coverage will stop working after some random time, maybe a hour or so. The phone still works, I get 3 bars in the status bar, but no 3G, 4G or 1x in the status bar. Very occasionally it will come back on its own.

If I restart the phone or if I travel to a 4G area, the mobile web will work again. While it is working at home, I will occasionally see 4G for a few seconds in the status bar.

Verizion tech support has not been very much help. The suggested I call back in a few days and they will check the logs.

I am wondering if this is related to the rumored issues with the 3G/4G handoff since I am sitting in a region where the 4G is just barely detected.

Should I expect an OTA update will fix this, or should I ask for a replacement phone?

Thanks in advance.

My WiFi, or 3G will disappear too....not at the same time, but it does happen. I'm not in 4G area and glad since I am having enough trouble with 2 different services.

Not sure what the cause is or if I should bring it in to get switched for another, but I've had to reboot at least twice a day in order for service/s to be back up and running. All could be fine at home (WiFi), I look at the phone and the weather is no longer displayed but the WiFi symbol is still on but no data.....

Thoughts anybody

I will continue to test, and update this post.

So far, it seems that as long as I set Preferred network to 'CDMA auto (PRL)' I get a consistant 3G connection. If I switch to 'CDMA + LTE/EvDo auto' the 3G will eventually stop working. Using the link from 'Any Cut' to change back to 'CDMA auto (PRL)' will get it working again without restarting.

Looks like this issue is also being discussed in the following thread.
