my 3G icon and bars start off white. but turn blue after a minute or two. anyone know why?

White = regular cell voice/data

Blue = connected to Google services.

Yep, what sniffs said. In regular, stock GB, it would be green, not blue.

gotcha. but at this point its blue even when i'm just sitting on a homescreen or in a non google app like tapatalk. so i wasn't really sure

It should always be blue.

If you connect to some wifi signal that has a FW and alot of content blocked, such as Google services, it'll turn back to white. When it's white, this means you can't get any Google services such as Google Voice, Google Talk, etc.. so it should always be blue unless it's being blocked.

ok, it boots up white. then handshakes w/ the network and turns blue. so its all good

could being in a poor signal area cause it to go white as well?

It'll be blue even in 1X.. it can drop to white anytime you lose connection and it'll be white just after a phone call.

Anytime you lose data for more than a few seconds, it'll turn white.

would sending a text turn it white? just like a phone call

Technically it would, but it would show white anytime you sent/received a text so they've built in some sort of logic to only show white when you lose a connection from a phone call or if you disconnect for more than like 10 seconds.
