3G ON or OFF While using Wi-fi on Froyo 2.21

So now that I have Froyo and the ability to turn 3G on or Off, I notice unless I turn it off it still shows the little icon at the top of the screen while using Wi-fi. And in my settings for Wi-fi I have it set to never sleep because Wi-fi uses less power than 3G, so I am told. But I guess my real question here is if 3G is set to ON and Wi-fi to never sleep is 3G running concurrently with wi-fi and using more power, any ideas?

No if you have wifi on it disables 3G unless there is no wifi signal in range
