3G Symbol and Greyed Out D

Underneath my 3G symbol up on the top bar, there is a grayed out letter D.

Haven't found it in the manual anywhere and I'm wondering if this might have something to do with Data Roaming...which would surprise me since I'm right smack in the middle of a Sprint zone with good signal.

Interestingly, this has been here even at home and I wonder if that has something to do with my email not being retrieved?

I believe it just means "dormant." I'm not positive though. When there is data flowing, you will see data uploading with the up arrow, and downloading with the down arrow. If you don't see any arrows, you are dormant. Anyway, that is what I think it means.

You can search the market for a widget that can toggle it for you, or better yet, download QuickSettins from the Market (free) and do this plus much more.

everyone i have tried so far when i toggle it i still get data via 3g......

I use "dcswitch" - it's a great toggle that lets me turn off all data during day but i still get texts and calls, obviously.

Strange, QuickSetting work fine on my Epic.
