using the mobile signal widget from the market and while the bars match up with the bars on the "top" of the g2X's screen, the widget reads "3G" while the phone itself reads "4G" - weird? which is accurate?

The phone saying 4g is purely LG's doing. T-Mobile does not have a true 4g network. They're 3g network is HSPA and they're "4g" network is HSPA+ which is basically an upgraded version of 3g. Both are 3g technology though.

Yeeah.. You wont ever be able to tell if your are in an HSPA or HSPA+ area unless you run speed tests and even then results are determined by a number of variable.
