I noticed a nice little charge on my bill today and called Sprint. Turns out I got billed by a 3rd party "Premium Messaging Service" that they tried to tell me I signed up for. They reversed the charges, but just an FYI for all to check their bills. They have a writeup on the practice on CNET today, and Verizon is suing 6 different companies according to the article. Last time they did this crap was back in 2006, but it's definitely back again.
You can also protect yourself against this predatory practice by calling Sprint and telling them to block all short codes. They will do it immediately. You won't get anything from Google, Yahoo! or Craigslist if you block them though.
