4.0.3 or 2.6.3

When I first got my Galaxy S II (WIFI Only) I attempted to root it but was unsuccessful. Now it is reporting that is has 4.0.3 on it but it is actually running the original 2.6.3 and will not install any upgrades that are pushed out by AT&T or manually downloaded. does anyone have an idea how I can clean this up and upgrade it? Performing a system reset does not help at all>

Yeah, try posting this question in the Galaxy S II forums.. Not the Galaxy S III. That would be an excellent start.

All else fails, grab whatever "factory" release from Sampro.pl or SamMobile.com and ODIN back to default.
