4.1.2 killed my Preferred Network Mode - LTE/CDMA

I have been checking the forms and no one has mentioned this yet. Since updating to 4.1.2 I am unable to use LTE/CDMA. I'm in Portland, Oregon and we just started to see some LTE areas go up and I tested this days before receiving my update. Now, I have to be in CDMA mode only as there is no signal outside of wi-fi. Sprint Tech said that its normal as I'm not in an LTE area yet. I don't buy that as it worked previously. It says LTE/CDMA. It should work both ways.

Could it be the introduction of new tower software: EHRPD rather than EvDo? Any ideas?

Very odd. I am still on 4.1.1 and as you said the option is there. If it's not in the update I'd definitely say it's software related as to why it's gone.

Sent from my Sprint S3 using AC forums.

I don't have any signs of LTE in Idaho and i still have my on LTE/CDMA. You really wont get faster speeds on EHRPD over EvDo (least for me i haven't gotten faster speeds). Honestly i think Sprint Tech doesnt know what they are talking about on the whole "not working because not in LTE" thing, but then again has there been anytime they have been right on tech stuff?

If I'm understanding your problem correctly, that is normal behavior in areas with ongoing upgrades. There have been a couple times in my experience where my phone wouldn't connect to either 3G or 4G while in LTE/EVDO/CDMA mode, but would connect to 3G just fine in CDMA/EVDO mode. That usually lasted about a day, then went back to normal.

Also, you really shouldn't be too surprised that the LTE would be turned on and off intermittently at this point, especially if you're not in a launched market (which sounds like the case). LTE will come and go as they test towers and put new ones online. Give it a few months, and things will stabilize.

Thank you for your reply. It seems unusual that no one is having this issue. It worked before 4.1.2 as I kept it in LTE mode hoping to catch 4g when Portland finally gets it.

I may go to a service center and have them check the radio.

I think that's best.

Issue resolved at sprint store. They ran this code on the keypad: ##72786#. All is well again.

Other people have reported it in other areas of the forum. It is unrelated to the update. People post primarily in the forum about their phone so many issues that have nothing to do with the phone itself are posted in each forum, most asking about the same things like best keyboard, what people are hoping for in Android 5, or LTE problems.

Sent from my totally awesome Sprint Galaxy Nexus, even if I don't know all its secrets yet.

You should start seeing LTE soon, I live up in Longview, WA and have coverage in the west end of town now. Check out the sensorly app, it will show live coverage maps that are updated by app users.

Kellsarah, I cannot believe that Longview is getting it before Vancouver which is part of Portland Metro??? I just drove from Mt. Hood through Gresham, OR using Sensorly app. I found more 4g on Sprint that earlier reported. Its exciting but I hate the rollout. I have to drive into areas of Portland to use 4g.

I'm sure there's a reason behind Sprint's rollout schedule, but it's certainly not obvious to anyone outside the company.

I think it's obvious why smaller or more remote areas are upgraded to LTE before the metro/big city areas. They are smaller and less towers to upgrade so knock them out and be done with them. They did the same thing when they came into the Chicago market. Hit many of the smaller areas first and closed in on the bigger areas later so they can maximize the number of individual crews working on the equipment.

Really makes more sense to hit the big towns at full force with multiple crews than a smaller scale because your broken up all over the state.
