4.3 broke Kindle app on HTC One

After the 4.3 update the Kindle app attempts to start, but then throws the message that it has stopped. I've tried all the fixes suggested in numerous threads, up to and including a complete phone reset. Nothing gets it to work. What's strange is that yesterday I got a Nexus 7 (2013), also with 4.3, and the Kindle app works perfectly well there.

If anyone has the same problem and comes up with a fix, please post it here. Thanks.

People actually read on their HTC Ones...?

Indeed. The larger screen is excellent for the purpose.

Because the Kindle app works on my Nexus 7 with 4.3 but not on the HTC One with 4.3, I'm inclined to believe that the problem may emanate from changes in Sense rather than from the 4.3 update itself. Make any Sense?

There was an issue awhile back if you had "Force GPU rendering" checked in Developer Options > Advanced that had a similar effect on Kindle app -- worth a shot to ensure that's un-checked, but I can't test, still waiting for 4.3 myself. Steve

Thanks. Tried that (first had to activate Developer Options), no joy.

I'm hoping enough people have this issue that one of the many experts here with turn their attention to it.

i would try sending this feedback to amazon as well. perhaps leave a review on the kindle app.

chances are they are more likely to do something about it than HTC...

Hard to believe I'm the only one experiencing this. In case anyone else is, here's an update:

I spoke with both Amazon and HTC Level II techs, and after going through numerous trouble-shooting steps neither had any idea of why the Kindle app won't open following the 4.3 update. Both promised to look into the issue further and get back to me (Amazon said it might take "a while", and HTC said maybe early next week). I'll post any results here.

THANK YOU for calling up both companies and letting them know. There are many of us who will hopefully get 4.3 soon, and also use Kindle. The quicker the fix, the better!

The fix that worked for me was to clear app data using Titanium Backup Pro then tu turn off Developer Options and reboot.

I read some discussions on the Internet and followed their advice. I disabled the developer options and rebooted. I cleared the data of the Kindle app. I even deregistered some devices from the Amazon Kindle website. But none of them worked. My Kindle app still crashes every time it is started. I just emailed Kindle app support. Hopefully they can help.

I can confirm that none of these steps have resolved the problem on my HTC One Developer edition. Thanks for keeping up the suggestions as to possible fixes and for contacting both Amazon and HTC about this problem.

same issue. since there's no further update or solution, guess we'll have to wait.

Which sources that you download kindle?
I uninstalled app Kindle 4.2.0.34 from Play store, and down another ver 4.2.0.34 from appstorevn, it worked fine. I don't know why.
My One is at 4.3, ARHD 22.0 by Mike.
hope it is helpful for you all.

I got it.

Mine is the HTC One Developer Edition. Android 4.3.

I discovered, if I turn off the Developer settings, then reboot the phone, the Developer settings are automatically turned back on.

With that background, here are the steps I performed, which got the Kindle app running on my phone:

1. On the Amazon website, I made sure my phone was deregistered.

2. I removed any Kindle app from the phone.

3. I turned the Developer settings off.

4. I restarted the phone.

5. Turned the Developer settings off, again.

6. Reinstalled the Kindle app, from the Google Play Store.

7. The app ran correctly and I was able to register the phone, at which point my library synced as normal. I confirmed I can open and navigate books. When I close them, the app correctly syncs my farthest location.

8. I closed the app and found I could turn the Developer settings back on and the Kindle app runs fine.

Same here when I loaded 4.3 onto samsung galaxy 3

It was suggested to keep trying to open it - one guy tried 10 times, I tried 5 and it eventually opened, and now always opens

Persistence, and it eventually uncrashed itself weird!
