When the Thunderbolt is active as a Hotspot, will it be 3G capable as well as 4G? For some reason, I feel like the Hotspot itself would work differently between the two services even though that's probably not true.

Also, since I'm on the Hotspot subject... How does it work exactly? I was always under the impression that it was a free service with Verizon smartphones, but then I tried to use it with my temporary Fascinate and any site I had to sign into for some reason, it was telling me I had to subscribe. Sites where I didn't have to sign in worked flawlessly...

And if it's not free, will rooting the phone (whenever it happens on a live phone) allow me to make the service free through hacking?

it will be 3G/4G capable.

If you root, you will get free hotspot. that is the only reason I will root mine.

hotspot is not free. it costs money per month.

Mobile hotspot will work the same for 3G or 4G, the only difference being the speed. The hotspot turns your phone into a wireless router, enabling you to connect other wireless devices to the phone and utilize it for wireless access. Yes, it costs money through VZW.

It won't be free of course and it sucks that they don't allow it to be on a corporate discount (its $20 regardless of my 20% off).

On my BB Storm2 I bought the app "Tether' for $25. I works great for me and I don't pay any surcharge to Verizon. I see on Tether's website that they have an app for Androids. Does anybody know if this will work the same way. I used this in Europe and on a cruise chip and it was great and no extra charge.

You still need a wireless tether program. I don't like to root because there is too much to it. I don't need admin control. I also prefer to update my phone ota, i don't want to have to plug it up and download the update.
im a stock guy. I like my phone to look very official and professional

Having a rooted phone doesn't change the appearance at all. You're thinking of loading custom ROM's and such.

Rooting just allows admin functionality, as you said, and your phone still looks "official and professional".

All rooting essentially does is rename/move around a few files to give full access to the system, your look and feel won't change.

EDIT: beat me to it :p

I know but i read in order to update it. YOu need to download the update then install it to your phone through you computer. I don't want to have to do that. I went through all this hacking and such when i was a member of XDA and owned a samsung omnia. All the roms and stuff we used were cool but now i just want it to be stock. Everything official. I know i sound like some wuss :p

Nope, you don't at all. For the longest time I was the same way, and if it weren't for my undying need to certain features that require root access to get to, I probably would still be unrooted :p

I'm going to try that free WiFi setting as soon as I pick my phone up.
I am on the fence for rooting the device.
Free Wireless Tether AND removing any/all bloatware would be my main reasons.

I don't need to overclock, underclock, run custom ROMs, etc.

(Then again...I'm sure everyone has said that....at first...:) )
