4g in New Orleans for about a minute

I stopped at the store so my girlfriend could get something and decided to turn on 4g while I waited in the car. I ended up with a 4g connection for about 1 minute. Unfortunately I don't know how to take a screen shot yet. For those in nola, I was around Claiborne & Louisiana, the signal was weak but it said I was connected. I tried driving around to re-aquire the signal but the gr said enough geeking out & she wanted to get home & have dinner. I hope this means we get 4g soon.

I wouldn't hold your breath. I hope it does expand this year so we can get some love in Birmingham, AL too but I think Clearwire is trying to fulfill some requirements to use leased spectrum in its markets and nothing more. Head over to clear.com/coverage and look at Slidell and Hammond, they have a single tower a piece. Now look at the Birmingham, AL metro area. We got a few towers in the worst part of town and a few nearby cities got a single tower apiece. I would bet you're getting the same tease we are.

It's on, but coverage is spotty outside of the CBD. I did a Speedtest.net bandwidth test off Poydras and got 7Mbps down, but couldn't get any signal in the FQ. I live off Napoleon near Claiborne, but could only get a "fair" signal while standing ON Claiborne. The Clear.com map shows better coverage than that, so I'm hoping it's just because they're testing.

Where were you getting a signal on Poydras? I am not getting any Sprint 4g at Poydras and Claiborne right now.

Thats about where it stops, seems the elevated portion of Claiborne is too much for it to get past. Check out the map I've put together on Sensorly. Took a walk with the dog in the cbd yesterday and expanded it. While the coverage is ok in the CBD, there are portions where no signal could be found, mostly in the signal "shadow" of buildings.

Cool, I checked it out late last night and was getting 4g downloads of about 4Mb/s on Poydras around Le Pavillon Hotel.

Excellent signal on the levee at lafayette st in gretna.4MB down and 1.2MB up.Signal totally gone within one block away from the river.
