I am on my second device, the device is rooted/unlocked but no custom roms or anything. I very rarely get more than 5Mbps, but more often than not I get less than 1. This is in Midtown and Upper West Side. Has anyone else had this problem?

I only get 5Mbps down or lower LTE in the western city part (not suburban) of Washington, DC. I read others here and elsewhere getting 10 or more down and I'm really envious.

Edit:
After flashing the latest vramc3 baseband radio I now get 13-15 down and 5-6 up.

It depends that tower can just be getting crowded while another on a mile away is fine. That's why Verizon is always upgrading towers in larger cities to prevent it but sometimes their is no preventing it. Hopefully when Verizon does the AWS upgrade that'll help the situation.

1mbps is pathetically slow. Were you indoors when you tested this?

SwiftKey'd from my Bohemoth Note2

Depending on the time of day, I would assume the towers are overloaded. Approximately 2,000,000 people from outside Manhattan commute into the borough daily. Add that to its 1.5M residents & I'd say you have a bottleneck. Lol.

I do have my phone rooted - is there a recommendation of something to flash to help? I gave up right now - my signal says 4G, 3 bars, and every single request was timing out.

Timing out in Speed Test? Same happened to me until I flashed the latest vramc3 baseband radio. To see if yours is up to date check baseband in Settings-About phone. It should have 'vramc3' at the end. I also got much better actual use performance after flashing.

I have the VRAMC3 radio. Today was unbearable. In a 90 minute boring presentation and 3 bars 4g and could barely load anything to take my mind off the drudgery :P
