4G Issues in Louisville, KY

I have gone back-and-fourth with Verizon regarding my HTC Thunderbolt and 4G. I have had several replacement phones sent to me with new sims cards and I am still having a Network/4G problem.

I continue to experience data loss, Slow 3G access and no data at all for long periods of time.

I recently was advise to open a service ticket so that Verizon will investigate the netwrok in my area. Upon opening the ticket, I have come to learn that the issue is much greater than my own user experience.

It appears that the issue is not with the HTC Thumderbolt but with Verizon's network. I am not sure of the timing for getting my issue resolved but if and when it is, I will update this post.

I've passed through Louisville several times in the past couple months and my LTE was hit and miss. Your post helps to explain it... I hope VZW fixes that soon.... until they do I doubt we will see any expansion of LTE coverage in Kentucky. :(

Went to my local Verizon store and got a new Sim-card. I have not had the problem all day. Will provide more detail as I continue to monitor my data over the next few days.

I've been having a lot of trouble in the St. Mathews area, 4G pops in and out there. Is that are maybe where you are having trouble also?

Yes I am having problems in that area. In fact, I am having problems everywhere.

Also, changing the Sims-card did not help...

Am I the only Thunderbolt owner having 4G problems in Louisville?

I pass through Louisville from time to time. LTE coverage seems to be extremely limited. Out of my last six visits only two had LTE.... Despite all of my stops being close to each other. One without is even between the two that did. It seems to be patchwork coverage. Not at what I expected.

I don't live in Kentucky but seeing this post sparked my curiosity. Prior to getting a 4G phone were you aware that there was an issue in your area? Verizon hasn't released 4G everywhere which I assume you know. It can also be spotty as well. It is strong in Arizona, especially in Scottsdale and Phoenix. It was just made available in Tucson. I live in Cave Creek and it is not in my area. I had the Incredible prior to the Thunderbolt. I knew it wasn't going to work on 4G in my area, but I wanted the phone. I have it at CDMA, keeping it in 3G by choice. Allowing it to choose which signal also wreaks havoc on the battery.
So you know it isn't your phone and that it is the network. You have some choices you can make and am sure Verizon would oblige you. I am actually happy with the 3G on this device. It is running faster than it did on my Incredible. If I am in an area that uses 4G for a long period of time I might take the jump and use it, but I am happy with saving on my battery and the 3G is running very well.
How is your signal set on your phone? You can choose either keeping it at CDMA or allowing it to select the signal by the location area you are in and this will cause battery drainage. If you aren't in a strong 4G area keep it at CDMA or ask Verizon if you can switch to a 3G device. I am sure if you ask to speak to Retention department, they will see you have had quite a number of TB's replaced.
I understand your frustration. But I have given you some suggestions and hope they help.

Thank you. 4G has been turned on in the Louisville, KY area since May 2011. Verizon is having issues with the network.

Any one having 4G issues in general today? I'm in Ohio and normally get a strong signal. My T bolt wont pick up 4G for some reason today. Tried all the "usual" fixes. Is it down?

had the same problem you are having and I got thru to HTC Tech and they did the same thing they told you about the trouble ticket...well they actually fixed it. It took a couple weeks but have not had a 4G problem since. I don't live near Louisville but my point of the post is it is a fixable situation. Worked for me!:D

Can you share as to what HTC did to fix your problem? many would benifit from this fix as it is happening across the US.

I also called HTC and they didn't offer any help to resolve this issue.

Then I suggest like previously set your phone to CDMA and use 3G until the 4G is improved. Your phone will still run well. I have had my TB almost two weeks now and am really pleased with its performance and I am only using 3G
