4G LTE problems HELP!!!

i switched the sim in my bionic and my nexus 3 times each. it made no difference for me. worth a try though, since it's free (don't let them try to charge you)

I also switched SIM cards in my GN before getting a replacement device and the SIM card didn't do a thing to help the problem.

I don't know a lot about SIM cards but can't understand how a SIM card (which just holds your authentication information) would affect signal strength but Verizon sure likes to use it as a troubleshooting technique.

once in a blue moon it seems to help someone, but for all intents and purposes it gets you out of the store so vzw reps can focus on people that are buying crap lol

If the sim isn't working correctly, it can prevent you from accessing the data on the network. Either way, whether you have a single bar, or the max bars, it is still the same signal. It is a digital signal and not an analog signal. It is either there, or it is not.

yea im staring to think its my sim card also, Im gonna try to flash to 4.0.3 and see what happens, if its not right then i will be hitting up VZW

Wouldn't 4.0.3 be a downgrade?

Anyways is it possible to keep 4.0.4 and use a diff radio? Just wondering if I can, where is there a radio list and how do I flash them?

good ? i also heard about a hybrid radio to help with the 3g/4g switch, i may even try that

I honestly do not want to argue here but you post this everywhere and its just not really true. I have done speed tests constantly on 3g where I currently live for school and watch the speed change with the signal and its the same at home on 4g. The speed is greatly affected by how many bars you have and since the nexus accurately displays the bars it really is a great indicator. Also if i have 1-2 bars while talking in my current location i get random distortions and minor cutouts whereas when it goes to 2-4 bars i have no issues in the same spots so bars mean a lot more than you give them credit for and this has held true on my droid 3, thunderbolt, blackberry bold, and my nexus.

Believe what you want to believe and I'll believe what I want to believe. You will continue to see me posting that unless you can show me where that is incorrect. Digital is either 0 or 1, you either have a signal, or you do not.

You can't compare the signal of a droid 3, thunderbolt, blackberyy bold to the Nexus. The first three are not using the same information for the signal they are displaying.

UPDATE GUYS: ok I flashed back to google factory stock rom 4.0.2 and re-locked bootloader and now I have VOICE and DATA with a strong 4G signal!!!! Im gonna ride like this for awhile until the phone settles itself in a bit. I guess in the future if I want to root Ill have to use the 4.0.2 radios. Thanks for everyone help and input

I have a much faster data connection at my work (strong 4G area downtown) then I do at home on 4G which is fringe area in the suburbs. Signal level does make a difference otherwise the Verizon coverage map wouldn't have different levels of 4G coverage and just have one (you have it or you don't). A weak signal will have more timeouts and require more re-transmission of the data.

You're correct in saying you have it or you don't (the data being transmitted on the radio signal) but you're not correct in saying that a weak radio signal will not affect data speeds. The DATA is either there or it's not, the radio signal (that carries the data) is affected by many things and can be weaker or stronger depending on your location weather, terrain, etc.

Ever watch Satellite TV and see pixelization? That is missing pieces of digital data that did not arrive with the complete data set. I still have signal and still see a picture and get sound but some of the data wasn't received to complete the picture. As you said, it's there or it's not and in this example there are pieces that were not which degrades the picture. In the case of cell data your device then needs to send for the missing data again and wait to receive it before it can present it to you as a completed data package (which results in you seeing slower data speeds due to the re-transmission). TV can't wait (for too long) or it would be all choppy so it just presents what it has and is why it looks pixelized.

You will require LESS re-transmission of missing data the stronger the signal is so the signal strength does have a direct correlation to the data speeds you perceive on your device.

Anyone know where I can get some 4.0.2 radios or something? Available to try anything to fix my signal. I'm getting strong 3g, semi-strong WiFi, and 4g that last 5 minutes and is anywhere inbetween 1-4 bars.

Kinda sure you are in 4.0.2 radios if you are stock. Did you mean 4.0.4?

Yes I'm on 4.0.4. But I have bad 4g signal, and bad signal overall. Really seeking help here with radios, any suggestions?

It is an analogue signal underneath it all and the strength of the signal directly determines how complex modulation can be used. In a very good radio environment LTE can use 64QAM - 6 digital bits are transmitted for every symbol and in poor radio environments much more simple modulation is used (QPSK - 2 bits per symbol for example) and this directly impacts how much payload data can be sent in a given timeframe. Additionally in poor radio environments more bits are devoted to error correction than in good radio environments.

Incase of anything, I ordered a free sim card from Verizon, get's here this week and I will try to update if it gets better. I read there's low chances of it happening, but just in case.

Anyone know where I can find older radios?

Update #2: after going back factory google stock my 4g and call signals started out great up until halfway though the day. It got so bad that i couldnt even attempt to make a call when switched to 4g, the phone would have no call signal or data but CDMA only work perfect. so I went to verizon this morning and got a new sim card(as instructed by VZW), I was able to place calls for about only 7 mins then the phone would just disconnect and whenever Id try to place another call it would say "mobile network not connected" Im gonna call VZW tech support back and have then send me a brand new Gnex and sim card ASAP

thats what I did, it started out ok, but then the bad signal and no data and dropped calls got worse, id call and demand another phone in your case cause thats what Im gonna do

Sounds all too familiar. Hope you have better luck with your replacement device.
