So I have been hearing a lot of rumors flying around, and a lot of misinformation given (by my own coworkers, nonetheless!). I am going to spell out the 4G Mobile Hotspot/Mobile Broadband Connect Promo and the subscription later.
Firstly, the Promo now ends June 15, 2011. This give Droid Charge buyers a little time to enjoy it free as well as us Thunderbolt owners.
Secondly, no one knows what the 4G MHS/MBBC pricing is yet. I heard a store rep tell a member here that it was going to be $29.99 and of all places the VZW Support twitter feed said its would be $20/2GB (which they were referring to the $20/2GB 3G MHS/MBBC). These are both false. We will decide the pricing in a short while and publicly announce it. Until then, treat everything else with a truck of salt. One thing I do know for sure is that the $20/2GB 3G MHS/MBBC feature will not be available on 4G devices. Remember that.
Lastly, you will not... I repeat WILL NOT... be automatically signed up for the 4G MHS/MBBC subscription when the promo ends. On June 16th when you attempt to initiate a MHS session, you will be prompted to sign up for the subscription. If you do not wish to have the ability to sign up for it from your phone, you may call Customer Care @ 800-922-0204 and have it blocked. Note that you can only have the blocked placed on your account AFTER the promo ends, as you cannot block a subscription that does not yet exist.
I will post updates to this thread as I find out more.
