Android Central Question

I have a Philips 7000-series tv which is a 4K tv but for some reason Google Play movies doesn’t offer me the option of renting/buying 4K movies. Netflix seems to stream 4K HDR content just fine but for some reason Google Play movies doesn’t even offer the option. Any idea why this is?

Are you using a native app for the TV or any other options (Chromecast, Roku)? If it's the native app, Google might not have updated it for 4K content.

This from the Play Store description (haven't tried on my Roku Stick+ so can't say if that plays 4K from Play Movies).
Watch in Ultra HD on Chromecast Ultra and UHD Android TVs. Watch HD on your laptop, Chromecast, Roku, iOS, and most Android devices. Elsewhere, purchases play in SD.

I’m using the native app. I read the description as well and understood that UHD Android TV referred to what I have since my TV has the Android TV OS and is a UHD tv... 🤔

Now that I think about it I guess it could also refer to NVIDIA shield devices etc.

A bit disappointing though considering that it’s pretty easy to assume that having a UHD TV and Google play movies would give you the ability to watch UHD movies..
