Alright, I'm about at my wits end with this device.

My first phone was replaced for the screen malfunctioning.
My first replacement was replaced for using over half an amp of power idle.

Now my second replacement (current one I've got), is now using 600mAh idling with the screen off, no GPS, Facebook and weather sync ever 4 hours using 3G, wi-fi off, after a fresh system reset and battery pull. Same issue my phone was having previously. Battery monitor is showing the temp at 109F currently, and it maxed out at around 116F last night. I unplugged it from the wall last night at 11PM, and woke up at 8AM to find it dead. Not sure how long it was dead.

I'm about to ask Verizon for a change to a different 4G phone. What phones using 4G are currently out, and what phones are coming out soon that use 4G?

Also I'll take tips to fix this issue, but I've done everything from my previous thread and from other threads with the same issue.

When you say "fresh reset", did you check this before you installed anything? Not even your mail and sync? No apps? Have you tried a different monitoring app?

Happening on two phones in a row sounds like an app issue. Do you use ActiveSync? Did you turn off Blockbuster backgound movie updates?

Same battery or different battery? Can you try another? Is it plugged in? Same charger or different charger? Can you try another?

Fresh reset, I didn't install anything but battery monitor widget. I did setup mail sync from my google account, but disabled contact and calendar sync. Nothing else syncing, no other apps. I haven't tried a different app but it is painfully obvious that something is wrong because the battery is ridiculous. Same battery from my original device, which was fine battery wise for a few weeks before the screen issue.

I don't use active sync, I'll check the blockbuster thing, I think I have it disabled though though. I use just a few apps, Facebook (sync 4 hrs), twitter (sync whatever the highest time is), google voice, battery monitor widget, spottily, speed test and zedge backgrounds.

I do not have another battery, during my tests the device was plugged in, and I waited 1 hour after reset to look at the data. Same charger, I do not have another other than just USB through my computer. Infact, the USB can not support the phone, it still drains while charging via USB. :/

Thanks for your help frank!

Does the battery seem ok? Deformed at all?

If you place it on a flat table and try to spin it, does it rotate and spin?

If you are stock, you have to update the blockbuster app in the market first I believe before you can disable background updates. I could be wrong but this was a huge issue for some on stock. Silly bloatware.

Just checked battery, it spins 4 turns or so and stops, normal?

It looks to be pretty flat, it is rather hot though.

I'll check this now after it turns back on

Mine doesn't spin, and in most cases, a battery shouldn't spin a full rotation unless you're really putting force into it. If it spins freely without much friction, it indicates there's a slight deformation to the battery or it's casing (even if it doesn't really look like it), which could indicate a bad battery issue and not a phone issue.

Hmm not sure I'm following you. I spinned it on a glossed wooden table so perhaps there wasn't much friction. Yours doesn't spin at all??

In blockbuster settings I have:

"Enable Movie Updates", meaning they are disabled afaik.

Also checking for updates says there are none.

Well, I think we've covered most of the bases here already. But... it only takes one serious overheating to ruin a battery. I wish you had another one to try. Also wish you had another wall charger to try. However, lacking that, you might also want to check while on battery only, no charger plugged in.

Also, I agree that the battery should not spin on a flat table.

Try what with no charger?

How to Tell If You Need a New Cell Phone Battery | eHow.com

Essentially, even on a smooth surface, a wireless battery should lie completely flat and flush against a surface, which would prevent it from rotating very much. It shouldn't wobble if you put weight on it (like a table with a bad leg), and unless there is some kind of lubrication between the battery and the table, even a polished surface should provide enough friction to prevent a completely flush battery from rotating.

This is one of the first steps a lot of VZW Tech agents use to determine if the problem is with a phone or a bum battery. A battery that's running hot and potentially bulging at the sides allowing it to either wobble or spin is a typically a bad sign.

I thought you said you were testing with the phone plugged into a charging device (AC or PC - don't matter). If so, remove the cable. If that's not the case, I'll bone up on my reading skills :)

From all I've heard and read ingles you root and install custom rom thunderbolt has worst battery ever, if you go with different device charge is supposed to have much better battery life

Yes it was not plugged in.

Alright, I just did the "battery spin test", and combated my sister's droid inc 2, and mine definitely has an issue with it.

Can I call verizon for this or do I need to go in ?

Either or. You can call and they'll replace the battery ... I'm not sure the process for a store, but it might be worth a call to see if they could get you a quicker replacement.

Calling now, thanks guys.

I'm sure you could call. Just explain, if that is faster for you than going into a store. The benefit of a store is that you'd know right away.

This is definitely starting to sound like a battery issue.
