Will there be an update for the note 9 to run off the 5g / 5ghz soon that would be fresh

5g is the upcoming cellular technology, 5 gHz is an existing WiFi technology that your device already supports so no update is needed.

For the Note 9 to support the upcoming 5g cellular it would need the hardware to support that, we'd certainly have heard if that was included in the original build. Certainly that Samsung is releasing an S10 specifically for 5G support is an indication the Note 9 wouldn't support it with a simple software update.

Correct, Note 9 does not have the hardware for 5G. Even the S10's that are shipping now do not support 5G. Only the S10 5G edition (releasing a little later) will support 5G.

It is way too early for 5G purchases in my opinion. The new Qualcomm chips are out soon, and I won’t buy into 5G for at least another year. Most likely two.

Even if you have a phone, the coverage from the carriers will need to be developed.

My Note 9 will serve until then.

I'm on board with this, and have even said the same to others asking the question on here. We've had several "should I upgrade now or wait for a 5G handset" type of questions, the response is that for MOST people (unless you live in a large population center) 5G will take longer to be useful to you and you'll probably be looking to replace any device you buy today by the time it comes to your area in any significant coverage.
