5 Reasons: HTC One (M8) Camera is Better Than the Galaxy S5′s

I have a G Flex with 13mpx.

Idunno about Zoes but Time Capture (takes pictures from BEFORE shutter pressed) has been great.
My colors do not pop as aggressively but they adjust well on-phone.
No refocus but a gratifying manual focus override.
Standard 2mpx chat camera but it has a mode for 13mpx rear camera selfies guided by the rear LED.
I LOVE THE FLASH.
No saved custom setups but it's pretty easy to adjust.

NO DECENT STABILIZING AT ALL

I only record video with either 1080p 60fps or quad HD now, my camera just doesn't deliver any good results without it. Overall stills are a tad worse than my Sony compact 10mpx but video is much better.

I like the color and focus of the M8 but I need to print some pictures and it can't deal with that. As a social sharing device it creates impactful shots that don't waste a pile of storage space. And the M8 is well suited to indoor work.

S5 is....mehhhhh. It doesn't take pictures that excite me, regardless of the mpx or special settings. I feel Samsung somehow screwed up the S5 camera.

Flex is mediocre camera among the expensive phones and under the right conditions it will amplify the blue levels and screw a shot for some bloody reason...hope this is patchable. No OIS makes dim shots even more challenging than the sensor already makes them, but sadly I have the acquired skills to make them anyway. But overall I am quite happy with the balance struck, I sometimes use it in tight spaces and it will take a flash photo at six inches without washing out!!

I'll add one that should have been the first one mentioned, but was left out completely. Wide field of view.

Why are you comparing your flex to the m8 and the s5?

Also Zoe does the same thing as time capture, it well take images before you hit the shutter button.

Because I set up and repair computers for people and they keep wanting me to advise on what new phone they should buy *shakes fist*. So I go digging around the web trying to see what people are saying. I use my phone for casual photos and as an inspection camera, so I also have a little personal curiosity.

And if anyone was hitting forums shopping around themselves, they may want to know that Flexes lack OIS and their video stabilizer is garbage. Sharing is caring.

Also, thanks for clarifyjng that a Zoe will also start from before the shutter was clicked. Makes it much more useful!

Fair enough, I was just curious seeing as how we are in the m8 section

And I just read in the S5 forum that someone discovered his camera keeps going back to the 8mpx default and it's bugging him. Sheesh.

The S5 is plagued with so many problems. Camera lens cracked, camera going bad, lag using camera and problems focusing to name a few.

My girlfriend's cousin has an s5 and he let me play with it. First thing I did was open up the camera, a good 5 seconds before it actually opened.

I have played with 5 S5 at at&t and Verizon and 3 of the 5 did the same thing and all 5 would not focus good inside the store.

I fact some poster on the S5 board took a picture and a screen shot and the screen shot looked better and had more detail.

His focused just fine, though it wasn't nearly as fast as my m8. Everything else seemed ok but since I'm so used to my m8 it definitely felt slower in almost every aspect. Opening apps, multitask, camera, gallery.

To me, it just felt like a downgrade to the fluidity of the m8. My opinion of course

I just traded my s5 for an m8 after having it since launch. The s5 camera does not take 5 seconds to open and focuses just as fast. It's really great actually.

I didn't say every s5 camera takes 5 seconds to open, I said his did.

I went from the m8 to the s5 and now back to the m8. I had the s5 for three weeks. I know the mega pixels are much bigger on the s5, but for whatever reason I was never impressed with any of the pics I took. They just looked ok. Also, it took forever for the phone to actually take the picture. It felt like it always took 2 to 4 seconds to focus and finally capture. The m8 takes the picture instantly. With small kids that small time is a huge issue. For my need the m8 camera is much better.

Did you turn picture stabilization off? If the camera was teliing you to hold the phone steady that was the reason.
