50 mAh seems like such a small increase, I wonder why they even increased the battery size at all. Would it even make a difference in usage, or do you think it probably just offsets the consumption that the edge features would use.

It depends on how much current the phone is drawing, which depends on the screen brightness and CPU speed, which depends on what's running.

IOW, definitely possibly. Or, in usable terms, no one but the person specifying the battery for the device during the design stages knows why s/he decided on that capacity battery. It could just be a case of "mine is bigger than yours", it could be that some battery company offered them a great price on 2550mAh batteries or it could be that someone woke up with the number 2550 stuck in his head. I'd go for a 3500mAh or more battery in a phone like that (and a removable one - I think making it non-removable was one of the three worst decisions Samsung ever made), but I don't do system design any more (or much of anything - I'm retired, so I enjoy my grandkids and help people here), and I don't work for Samsung.
