've noticed that while I'm connected to WIFI, the 5G or LTE symbol will sometimes popup in the status bar and then go away. You can see this in the screenshots below where the top photo shows LTE while connected to WIFI and in the photo below, its gone, which I think is normal. I'm just curious as to what it means when the LTE or 5G symbols pops up while connected to WIFI.

Could be do to poor wifi , but I get that on my Samsung devices also or a service that needs Mobile data

To me this is a bug that no one has really pushed Samsung to fix (or at least no one cares as it does not seem to affect functionality.
As mustang said, I've also notice this on Samsung phones often (as my wife has the Note series)....

Or, maybe Samsung is doing this for some purpose that I can not understand....

What I learn , is there a app that's using mobile data for something like location , quick fix is go to recent apps and clear all and that Icon should go away , usually apps are banking apps that can cause this to use mobile data in background

This is true. I just moved into a fringe coverage area. I have great internet, and expected to be able to live with everything on wifi. Well, certain apps still require cell network service. A couple that I noticed Google messages for one, specifically when doing group text. there appears to be a bug. first text will send, but subsequent ones would just time out. put the phone into airplane mode and out again, and the text would send.

Another app that requires mobile network is PINGID. my employer uses it to authenticate remote access into the network. on cell network, i'll just get a prompt to ack the logon, on wifi, i am required to actually key in the 6 digit passcode.

In the end, I ended up buying a VZW network extender. Solved all the problems with google messages, and made PINGID work as intended, until of course my internet has an outage.

You can turn off data background in each app to prevent this just long press the app then tap info>tap mobile data and turn off for background
