60 to 75% of Battery Life being used by Display.

I've just recently got my shift 2 days ago and have been wondering about this. My battery life usually dies before the end of my 9 hour work day. The odd thing I have noticed though is that my Display is using up 60 to 75% of my battery every day so far. I got rid of the stock clock, have a dark background, have a timeout of 15 seconds and the brightness is set to 15% and this still is happening. Any suggestions guys? This is really odd. I was looking at pictures of other peoples battery use and none are this high.

A friend of mine had shown me the same problem on their phone. My display always read between 8 to 15% the highest. Your display normally shows a lower percent than the Android system. However, on some phones the display might show as the highest.

All my settings are at factory default, and my battery last for a long time. Something might be off and causing the screen display to consume that much battery power. Did you check to see if your back light is set to never turn off, or always on.

Display is always the highest on my Verizon fascinate. I just thought that was normal. But I get 27 hours battery life with normal use.

I guess it depends on which device you have. If you're getting that much use... then you're good to go.

Wow, that's high!

I don't know what to tell you on that one

What phone case are you using does it have magnets in it? Check and make sure the phone is not coming on in the case. If you run a magnet under the bottom of your shift it will turn on.

Let us know,

Well, I figure the percentages must add up to 100% so if I am playing with my phone a lot I get a higher percentage for the screen. If I don't use it a whole lot that percentage vs other things is lower. If you are using the phone I would expect the screen to use more power than anything else, although I haven't done any hardcore gaming or anything that requires the processor to work harder than a few minutes of Angry Birds at a time or some internet browsing.

I also assume the brighter your screen the more power it will draw. Some people are so anal about battery life they turn the screen down to like the first notch or whatever, so yeah their battery will last longer and it will probably lower their screen percentage use. I just keep mine on Auto Adjust because I like looking at a bright screen. I have a charger at work and in my car if I need it.

When I first got my Shift it didn't last the day either cause I was always turning it on to check different little things even when I was working. Now I have sort of left it alone more while doing my work and only play with it before and after work and during my lunch. Also the battery takes like 6 full charge/discharge cycles(or twelve half charge/half discharge cycles...etc) before it is working to it's full potential.

Now I get through the day fully and put it on the charger when I go to bed even though it probably could go through part of the next day. I think my screen percentage usually hovers around 40-50% or so by the time I throw it on the charger but I am not entirly sure. It definitely isn't lower than anything else.

Well I can always give it a couple days since I've only been through 2 charge/discharge cycles so far. I carry my phone in my pocket.

I think I found the culprit draining my battery life. Downloaded Spare Parts and found that the third party app I downloaded as a Windows Live Messenger app was using a TON of Partial Wake up usage. Uninstalled it and now installed Fring which seems to be going to sleep when my phone does and it using no partial wake up usage. Hope it lasts longer now.

Turn everything onto power saving mode. lowest settings on brightness of screens time outs. start bogging down. if all else fails you can take it into sprint and see what they think...

I ran my battery completly dead yesterday just to check this out I got the same results. About 60% of the battery went to the screen. I'm going to say this is normal behavior. Interesting side note it took 18 hours to kill the battery with almost 5 hours of up time I would call that good battery life.

Dave

why turn everything to the minimum? thats the stupidest thing ive heard, are people that worried about getting alittle extra batt life to not enjoy their phone... just plug the damn thing in sooner

This isn't anything to get alarmed about. All it's saying, is out of 100%, the display used 85% of it during that time. Stream radio for an hour straight and the display percentage will go way down and you'll see you're streaming radio app will have a large chunk of it. You're other apps just aren't consuming that much so you're display # is high.

Turn off useless stuff

The screen of course gobbles up a lot of your power, but there are a lot of other things going on. I have mine set to 30% inside and 90% percent outside or in the car.
I also use and recommend a program called Quick Settings to turn of the WIFI, Internet, etc when not in use. These things gobble up a lot of resources and I simply switch them on when I need them.

Additionally find an Auto Start killer. This will allow you to stop programs that you do not use from starting up automatically and to be continually running.
