60 to 75% of Battery Life being used by Display.

Away from a plug

why turn everything to the minimum? thats the stupidest thing ive heard, are people that worried about getting alittle extra batt life to not enjoy their phone... just plug the damn thing in sooner

This works if you are near a plug all day. I have one in the car, at home and at work.

However if you are out and about and know you will not have access to a plug, or simply want a couple of extra hours, turning things off will get you there.

Well the main reason I brought it up is because my battery life was terrible, but like I said I found out it was the Windows Live Messenger App I downloaded that was using a lot of partial wake up usage, so the battery life is perfect now for me now that I uninstalled it and found one that uses no partial wake up usage. :)

I get typically get 60% max from screen usage with brightness set to auto. Even if I manually set the brightness to 15-20% or thereabouts, the auto setting seems to keep it at about that brightness level anyhow. Internet seems to be a fair drainer for me since that what I use my Shift for most.

Since I've turned off auto brightness adjustment, I've seen my percentage drop from ~70% to 30-40%.

Albeit I have started using the phone in a more "phone" like manner (i.e. more calls, quick e-mail checks, quick messaging) and less toying around, I found that the auto was making a lot of adjustments and was probably wearing on the battery.

Yo, i am not saying i turn everything to minimum, i go all out maximum everything everyday without sacrificing anything, why? cause i run around with a charger in my backpack everywhere...

Just giving advice for the people who wonder how they can save there battery...

Do you use the phone often? Even in short amounts of time? I don't hink that's out of the ordinary considering the screen will use up a lot of battery. Check your brightness settings.

Yesterday it was 98% screen 2% wifi
And over 2 hours stayed above 90% screen

Wow, even during the first day of owning the phone I didn't have that much screen usage! You must play with it constantly.

I'm guessing it is just the opposite... He probably wasn't playing with it constantly, rather, he was just opening the screen and admiring the phone. For example, if he had been playing Angry Birds for a couple of hours, it would have shown up on the usage screen. Instead the only 2 things that were using his battery (from what he posted) were the screen and wifi. Those 2 added together equaled 100% of his battery usage.

In other words, the % is only measuring what has been used. For example, if you had a pie that you cut into 8 pieces, and you ate one piece and your friend ate another piece. If you report on only what was eaten, you would say that you ate 50% and your friend ate 50%. That doesn't mean that either of you ate that much. There's still a lot of pie left.

ok guys i have had this phone for 2 days and really wondering where you find out what is using up your battery. please give me the path to find it cuz i am curious.

If you suspect something is draining your battery, download Spare Parts from the Market and look at Battery History. My experience was something using up a lot of Partial Wake up Usage, which if you do the dropdown in Battery History you'll see the option to view. Check all the options in the drop down to see what's using your battery the most.

I like Battery Indicator by Darshan Computing which you can find in the Market.

Thanks gonetomorrow. Yep my display is using 80% battery as well. Isn't that kinda how the phone works though? Shouldn't the diplay be the one thing that eats battery, if it didn't all the phones would just stay on and not sleep.....

It depends on how much you use the phone I suppose. I'm on mine a fair bit throughout the day and I get around 60%. Strangely though, my friend's Epic only uses 20-30% for display and cell phone idle uses 42%!

No, android system should be the highest battery user. That's where the juice for apps is accounted for
